Back Meet The Speaker: Stuart Maggs, CEO and Co-Founder of Scaled Robotics
What are the biggest challenges you see facing the real estate industry at the moment?
At Scaled Robotics we are focusing on delivering technological solutions to the market, but in reality the biggest challenge is not technological. It is delivering those solutions to a risk averse industry where change is slow.
How do you think the industry will change in the next 5-10 years?
Construction is set for a seismic shift as external trends continue to shape the industry from the increasing urbanization of our societies to climate change. To meet those challenges the industry will need to adopt new tools and processes to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
It’s clear that big data and AI powered software tools will reshape how projects are delivered and new manufacturing tools such as robots will continue to strengthen the link between digital design and construction manufacturing. Whether that be in prefabrication factories or onsite.
How is your company helping the industry prepare for and face these challenges?
At Scaled Robotics we are building the tools to bridge the gap between digital design and the physical construction site. We use a combination of robotics and AI powered software to automate progress monitoring and quality control on construction projects. Radically reducing risk and uncertainty within the process.
If you can’t measure it you can’t manage it, our platform delivers critical insight to project stakeholders quickly to make better decisions, reducing project risk.
The theme for this year’s FUTURE PropTech is “Re-Imagining Real Estate.” What does this mean to you?
To me re-imagining real estate is to look at how we can leverage technology to address some of construction’s systemic problems and deliver better performing buildings to clients and users.
What are you most looking forward to at FUTURE PropTech?
Personally I am really excited to see James Pellatt speak, he has an insightful view into how we can deliver innovative value within real estate, deploying novel technologies and business models.
Thank you, Stuart, for the insights. Stuart Maggs is the CEO and Co-Founder of Scaled Robotics. He is an architect and designer with extensive industry knowledge of introducing digital fabrication to construction in both research and industry settings and was instrumental in the ground-breaking Minibuilders project. Stuart is also a visiting lecturer at UCL London for the master program
